When should recurrent headaches be assessed?

Headaches may relate to missed meals, dehydration, sleep loss, vision, stress or migraine. Timing, triggers, neurological symptoms and medicine use determine concern.

🟢 Usually normal

This is often within expected variation when an occasional mild headache improves with food, water, rest and a return to normal activity.

🟡 See a doctor if

Arrange a clinical review if headaches recur, wake the child, worsen, affect school, follow exercise or come with vision change or vomiting.

🔴 Go to hospital now if

Use emergency care immediately for a sudden worst headache, stiff neck, seizure, weakness, confusion, head injury or non-blanching rash occurs.

✅ What you can do: Keep a diary, protect sleep and meals, arrange vision review and avoid frequent unsupervised painkillers.

⭐ Zango Clinic’s view: At 10–12 years, recurrent headache is not automatically an excuse or screen problem; red flags and patterns matter.

What causes repeated abdominal pain or constipation?

Constipation, diet, anxiety, urine problems, infection and functional pain are common. Persistent pain should not automatically be labelled worms or gas.

🟢 Usually normal

It can be reassuring when brief central pain settles and stool, urine, growth and activity remain normal between episodes.

🟡 See a doctor if

Seek professional assessment when pain is repeated or localised, wakes the child, causes weight loss, fever, urine symptoms, vomiting or school absence.

🔴 Go to hospital now if

Go to hospital now if there is the abdomen is rigid or swollen, vomit is green or bloody, stool is black or bloody, or severe pain causes collapse.

✅ What you can do: Track pain, stool, food and school days; provide water and fibre and avoid repeated deworming without assessment.

⭐ Zango Clinic’s view: At 10–12 years, stomach pain can be physical, emotional or both; careful evaluation beats routine worm medicine.

How should asthma and allergy be managed at school?

A written plan should identify triggers, daily treatment, rescue medicine and emergency steps. Inhalers with spacers are effective and not addictive when prescribed correctly.

🟢 Usually normal

A common age-related pattern is that the child participates normally, uses the agreed plan and has no night or activity-limiting symptoms.

🟡 See a doctor if

Discuss it with the child's clinician if night cough, wheeze, frequent reliever use, missed school or allergic reactions increase.

🔴 Go to hospital now if

Arrange urgent transport for the child cannot speak, becomes blue or exhausted, develops tongue swelling, collapses or does not respond to rescue treatment.

✅ What you can do: Give school labelled medicine and instructions, check technique and reduce smoke, dust and scent triggers.

⭐ Zango Clinic’s view: At 10–12 years, controlled asthma should permit school and sport; hiding an inhaler creates risk, not strength.

Are acne and other skin changes a medical problem?

Mild acne, oiliness and sweat rash are common in puberty. Eczema, fungal infection and scabies can look different and require the correct diagnosis.

🟢 Usually normal

Normal development may include this when spots are mild, non-scarring and improve with gentle consistent care.

🟡 See a doctor if

Book a non-emergency appointment when acne is painful or scarring, rash spreads, itch affects sleep, infection appears or appearance causes major distress.

🔴 Go to hospital now if

Treat the situation as an emergency when there is skin peels widely, fever and blistering occur, facial swelling affects breathing or a severe medicine reaction is suspected.

✅ What you can do: Avoid steroid-mixed fairness creams and sharing medicines; seek evidence-based treatment for persistent disease.

⭐ Zango Clinic’s view: At 10–12 years, every rash is not allergy and every pimple is not dirt; correct diagnosis prevents harmful creams.

When do back, knee or leg pains need attention?

Activity, growth-related changes, posture, bags and minor strain can cause pain, but swelling, limp, weakness and persistent one-sided symptoms require assessment.

🟢 Usually normal

This may be ordinary at this stage provided mild symmetrical aches settle by morning and do not limit walking, sport or school.

🟡 See a doctor if

Ask for medical or developmental advice if pain persists, is one-sided, causes limp or night waking, follows repeated injury or comes with fever or weight loss.

🔴 Go to hospital now if

Call emergency help for there is a deformed limb, cold pale foot, inability to walk with fever, sudden weakness or serious spine injury.

✅ What you can do: Check bag weight, footwear and activity, note pain location and avoid massage over swelling or acute injury.

⭐ Zango Clinic’s view: At 10–12 years, not every ache is growth; limp, swelling, fever and weakness change the diagnosis.

What causes dizziness, fainting or constant tiredness?

Sleep loss, dehydration, missed meals, heat, anemia, stress and standing suddenly can cause symptoms; heart, neurological or metabolic problems are less common but important.

🟢 Usually normal

Families can usually observe this when brief light-headedness resolves after sitting, water and food and has no exercise or heart warning signs.

🟡 See a doctor if

A qualified review is appropriate if episodes repeat, occur with exertion, periods are heavy, pallor or palpitations develop or school function declines.

🔴 Go to hospital now if

Do not wait for a clinic visit if there is fainting happens during exercise, with chest pain, severe breathlessness, seizure, injury, confusion or failure to recover quickly.

✅ What you can do: Have the child lie down, record circumstances and seek evaluation rather than using energy drinks or random tonics.

⭐ Zango Clinic’s view: At 10–12 years, tiredness is not always laziness; sleep, anemia and serious fainting patterns need separation.

Do fever, colds or pain need antibiotics and injections?

Most ordinary colds are viral. Antibiotics treat selected bacterial illness, and injections are not automatically stronger. Pain medicine must be based on age, weight and active ingredient.

🟢 Usually normal

A healthy range can include this if several simple colds occur in a school year but the child recovers fully and grows well between them.

🟡 See a doctor if

Contact the healthcare team when fever persists or returns, focal pain is significant, recovery is poor or repeated antibiotics and injections are being used.

🔴 Go to hospital now if

Immediate hospital assessment is required for difficult breathing, stiff neck, seizure, inability to wake or drink, severe dehydration or a non-blanching rash develops.

✅ What you can do: Ask for the diagnosis, medicine name, millilitre dose and duration; never share leftovers or combine brands blindly.

⭐ Zango Clinic’s view: At 10–12 years, strong care means correct diagnosis and dosing—not demanding an antibiotic or injection for every fever.
