Newborn stool: colours, frequency and red flags

Few things worry new parents like what they find in the nappy. In the first days a newborn’s stool changes from black and sticky to green and then yellow, and the number of stools varies widely from baby to baby. Colour is usually reassuring, this guide explains the normal range, and the few signs, like blood, that need a doctor.
